The
X-Men are back and this time they are fighting against an alien techno-virus
called Phalanx. It has began invading the Earth, taking over the minds of
any it infects...and only the X-Men stand in its way. To destroy them, the
Phalanx has begun infecting and cloning the X-Men's most lethal foes and
even themselves, it has reactivated the Sentinel factory and has even begun
to attack Magneto's Avalon space station... What's it all about? Like the first game, it's a fairly fast-paced adventure title. This time, six X-Men are immediately playable(Beast, Gambit, Wolverine, Psylocke, Nightcrawler and Cyclops) with the addition of one more(Magneto) joining the roster later on in the game. Depending on who you pick, you'll have a wide variety of attacks to rely on, and this time your mutant abilities aren't gauged on a meter, you have unlimited use of them. Gone are the "helper" X-Men from part one, but with unlimited use of your mutant powers, you'll hardly notice. This time around, every X-Man has a vastly different set of basic and special attributes which makes playing each of the levels with a different character such a new experience. Don't like taking out all of the enemies on the ground level? Crawl across the ceiling with Wolverine and Nightcrawler. Hate climbing your way to the top? Use Beast's incredible jumping ability to just shoot you way to the top. It goes on an on, and on top of that, there are even team play elements...which makes for quite a few new possibilities each and every game. |

Graphics - Great! The X-Men are large and gorgeously detailed. The levels, from the Sentinel factory to Magneto's asteroid, are huge and very detailed as well.
Sound - Innovative! The instruments used to make the music vary depending on which mutant you pick(and if you play two player, it meshes the two instruments together)! Sound odd, but turns out to be quite good.
Control - Excellent. You can pull off all of the mutant's moves and jumps with the greatest of ease.
AI - A straight-down-the-middle slash: The normal in-level enemies are pretty dumb, and the bosses are fucking hard!
Replay value - High, real high. With so many characters to pick from, you'll never get bored! Every level brings a new possibility with a new mutant!
Tips
for better gaming experiences: The game is tough with two players, increase your chances of actually making it past the second level with your buddy by entering either the infinite lives or invincibility codes.
