After a team of vigilantes kills your wife on your wedding day, you swear vengeance...and then go out and get a really cool car....so you can kill them all!!! Kinda hokey...yes. Executed awesomely...fuck yeah.

What's it all about?
Think of it as Dragon's Lair, but cooler...and with more cars....

Graphics - Well, it's anime-style art, so it looks really good. Surprisingly, not too grainy, though not full screen either. Wolf Team did a very good job of converting the animation to something the Sega CD could adequately handle.
Sound - The music/sound effects are all mixed in with the video, so they sound near redbook quality. Good stuff!
Control - Well, you either hit the direction/button fast enough or you don't...simple as that. There are no real control issues here...but then again, there's no real control either...
AI - Pretty much not applicable here. I will say, though, that the last level gets real hard, real fast...but it's not really cheap....things just happen insanely fast.
Replay value - Low. You'll probably play it once all the way through, after that, you'll just be using the Auto Play code.
Tips for better gaming experiences:
If you'd rather watch the game than play it, try the Auto Play code:

At the Start screen: Press UP to highlight Options. Press Start to enter.
At the options screen press: A fives times, and B once. You should hear a noise.
Go back to the start menu, start the game, sit back and relax.

Quick Note: Set the game on Hard to remove the movement indicators.

My rating: 60(game)/90(movie)(out of 100) - Ok, this is going to be a weird one. As a game....well, it's not really a game...but it tries to be...and it really doesn't live up to anything other than a memorization/reflex test. Now, on the other hand, as an anime movie, it rocks. Loads of style, lots of action and a decent amount of twisted humor make this a disc you'll be watching more than playing...
EGM gave it: 8, 8, 6, 7(out of 10)
GamePro Gave it: 5.0(graphics), 5.0(sound), 4.5(control), 5.0(funfactor)(out of 5)

Cat's review:
A game? This is supposed to be a game!? It's a really cool anime...but as a game, it sucks ass. Just a quick hint for Renovation - A game should actually offer *gameplay*.
Believe it or not, this is only the *first* helicopter you get to destroy with the car.
The avenger don't like bikers...
KITT should be jealous...
Fire it up, fire it up!

Description: This is the full run through of the game using the "Auto Play" code, from start up to ending. I've set the difficulty to Hard as that removes any of the on-screen indicators(telling you what to do) that are present during the Normal and Easy game modes. Minor editing was done in the form of deleting out the "Stage Clear" static screens that tally up your point totals.
Note: You'll need the most recent Divx codec to watch these videos. Also, slowdown and jumps in the playback may not necessarily be the fault of the game so much as the method I am using to record them. If you are having problems watching the videos in your browser, just right-click and download them to your hard drive...
Saturn Avenger :
Road Avenger was re-released, along with Cobra Command, as a double pack for the Saturn(in Japan). They both sported much nicer FMV and a full screen image.
