Robotnik is at it again, though this time he's decided to make the mistake of messing with Knuckles instead of Sonic. Bad move egg-head...he's not the kind of echidna you fuck with...

What's it all about?
An interesting departure from the Sonic series, while still using a lot of elements from those games. The 32X really gets put to work with the insane amount of color and scaling effects used throughout the game. You play as a team of two characters trying to make your way through levels, connected together by this sort of "bungee" cord that'll sling you around the screen. Using the "ring-bungee", a number of cooperative moves can be performed such as shooting your partner to higher ground, then use the recoil to fling you up there, stretching it out so that it'll sling you forward at an amazingly fast rate and other things...

Graphics - Fucking amazing. The color produced in all of the levels is breathtaking, and the constant scaling and special effects will knock you on your ass. Knuckles and the gang are also very colorful and sport some great animations.
Sound - Not bad at all. You get the usual Sonic-brand sound effects along with some hip music.
Control - It's kind of a toss up. When you and your partner are both in the groove with the "ring-bungee", things can go incredibly smooth(and fast), but when one of you messes up...it can take some real work to get back in the groove. One nice thing: The game actually has a tutorial that shows you the various techniques that can be used with the ring-bungee...
AI - It's a Sonic-like game...the general majority of the enemies pretty much ignore you...some will, occasionally, attempt to take a shot...but that's about it.
Replay value - High. With the amount of characters you can choose from(all having their own abilities and strengths), finding the right team for each level and situation will have you playing for a very long time. Hell, if nothing else, you'll come back for the excellent graphics!
Tips for better gaming experiences:
Experiment with the characters until you can find a team you can work with. The game rocks when you do, but can be a real bitch when you get two that won't work together at all.

My rating: 90(out of 100) - An amazing platformer that brings new life to old-school Sonic gameplay.
Game Informer gave it: 8, 7, 6(out of 10)
EGM gave it: 7.5, 7, 7.5, 7.5(out of 10)
Sega Saturn Magazine gave it: 7, 7, 5, 4(out of 10)(note: SS mag reviews all Sega formats, not just the Saturn)
GamePro gave it: 3.0(graphics), 3.0(sound), 2.5(control), 2.0(funfactor)(out of 5)

JD's opinion:
I don't know, it's ok and all...but the whole two-characters-connected-by-a-cord really messes with me at times. Gorgeous graphics though...makes my kitty eyes water with joy.

Hold!
Hauling ass with Knuckles...
A little wall-climbing fun.
Looks like Knuckles is being dragged along.

Sega logo, Attract Mode - 0:40, 8.5 megs

Immediate Streaming - YouTube
Description: Not a whole lot to this intro, but we do get a pretty snazzy Sega logo followed by a bit of smooth scaling, all accompanied by some great music.
Note: You'll need the most recent Divx codec to watch these videos. Also, slowdown and jumps in the playback may not necessarily be the fault of the game so much as the method I am using to record them. If you are having problems watching the videos in your browser, just right-click and download them to your hard drive...
Chaotix Revival?
Though thought to have been long-forgotten back on the 32X, in a sheer stroke of just mega-coolness, Sega has brought back the gang in the new "Sonic Heroes" game that's available for the various systems. Team Chaotix is made up of Espio, Charmy and Vector...
