Another
game from the ego-monster himself, Dave Perry. Collaborating with Sega and
a relatively young Disney Interactive, he(and the rest of the guys on the
Virgin team) have come up with an amazing platformer based very closely
on the animated film. What's it all about? You play as Aladdin, following(mostly) in the footsteps of the movie as he makes his way to find the Genie's lamp, and beyond. Gameplay consists of running, jumping, attacking with your sword and pitching apples at various enemies, as you make your way through the levels. Bonus stages, where you get to play as Apu, as well as the carpet ride break up the sidescrolling bits, and are a nice change of pace. |

Graphics - EGM created an award for it: Best Animation of the Year. Does that tell you anything? It's not hype, it's the truth and this cart gives 32 bit games a run for their money.
Sound - Another excellent job! You'll immediately recognize all of the music from the movie and some new stuff. The sound effects are excellent as well, with many of them coming directly from clips out of the movie.
Control - Very smooth. Aladdin slides, jumps and runs with the greatest of ease(and the greatest of animation).
AI - For the most part, it's pretty fair. Some levels, though, are pretty bad about the cheap hits, and it gets entirely too hard too fast on the last level.
Replay value - High! You'll come to watch the animation, and stay for the excellent gameplay!
Tips
for better gaming experiences: In case you're dreading it, if you fail to get out of the Cave of Wonders three times in a row while riding the magic carpet, the game will automatically move you to the next level. Thank God!

My rating: 95(out of 100) - Awesome animation, sound and graphics. Add to that smooth control and a wide variety of levels and you've got one of the best platformers ever made. Yes, it's *that* good.
EGM
gave it: 9, 8, 9, 8(out of 10) GameFan gave it: 99, 97, 95, 95(out of 100) |

The kitty in the bottle... Cat's opinion on it: Pretty good. I liked it even though the magic carpet ride and last level were entirely too hard. |
|||
Aladdin-Amp:
It really whips the llama's ass. |
Sultan's
Dungeon: Nice and blue. |
||
The
incredibly sadistic carpet ride... |
Hanging
around in the Genie's bottle. |

Did
you know? Capcom also made a version Aladdin for the SNES, but it's completely different...and not quite as good. |

The awards: Aladdin blew the industry away, here's a quick rundown of just a few of the awards it picked up in 1993: * EGM - Best Animation of the Year award * Game Informer - Best Graphics in a Video Game * Game Informer - Best Translation from the "Big Screen" * GamePro - Genesis Game of the Year * GamePro - Reader's Choice Award for Best Action/Adventure Game * GameFan - Megawards honor of "Best Movie Game" on any Sega console, and overall for any console. |
